Our FAIR-SPACE Hub Team were delighted to sponsor and take part in the prestigious UK Robotics Week 2019 activities. Organised by the EPSRC UK Robotics and Autonomous Systems (RAS) Network, the UK Robotics Week is now the leading national event in RAS. This year marked the 4th annual UK Robotics Week, held from 23rd - 30th June.

The 2019 programme comprised over 124 activities held across the UK; including competitions, lectures, open days, symposiums and workshops to name a few. The pinnacle event of Robotics Week; the International Robotics Showcase, was held at the Royal Geographical Society on 27th June and included a presentation from our very own Prof. Yang Gao, updating on some of the excellent research and developments which the FAIR-SPACE Hub has achieved so far. An interesting article from Chris Middleton at Diginomica exploring how FAIR-SPACE and the other UK Robotics Hubs are reaching out to collaborate with the rest of the world, is available here.

As part of the International Robotics Showcase, our FAIR-SPACE Researcher Team also provided a series of exciting demos on human-robot interaction, such as the sensing spacesuit, virtual reality and brain-computer interface. Click here to read more.

The showcase also included an awards ceremony for the School Robot Competition, which challenged pupils to create a robot that could cross the terrain of Mars. Click here to read our dedicated School Robot Competition Results article.

Our FAIR-SPACE academic partner, The Hamlyn Centre at Imperial College London, also hosted their 12th Hamlyn Symposium on Medical Robotics (HSMR), a leading international conference on medical robotics, attracting surgeons and engineers from across the globe. The Symposium included a FAIR-SPACE sponsored workshop, ‘From BCI to Human Robot Augmentation’, held on 26th June and attended by over 40 delegates. Click here to find out more.

Finally, our Researchers also took part in the Great Exhibition Road Festival, a three-day celebration of science and the arts hosted by more than 20 institutions on and around Exhibition Road.

What a spectacular week it was and one which the FAIR-SPACE Hub was incredibly proud to be involved in. We’re pleased to be able to share a selection of photos below:
